Yesterday in the IMs of a customer …
[2009/06/19 4:48] Harry Linden:
Hi there, I am just contacting you to make sure you have seen the recent blog post from Jack Linden
about bots, camping and gaming traffic, if you haven't read the blog posts,
we would ask that you read both the following articles here
http://tr.im/sl_bots and http://tr.im/sl_camping
Whether a landowner uses Bots or Camping Chairs, or Camping Chairs with Bots in them,
the effect is the same -
the traffic score for that parcel is inflated unfairly and would be considered a violation.
[2009/06/19 4:51] Harry Linden: If you want to keep the camping,
please move the camping items into a parcel which isn't listed in search.
—- german please ?! ;D
[4:59] Ethan Linden:
Hallo!
sprich unter About Land → Options → Show in places müsste deaktiviert sein.
[5:01] Ethan Linden:
camping ist nur gestattet, wenn man eben die Parzelle fairerweise aus der Suche rausnimmt.

Linden just released the new viewer 1.23.4 with lots of changes went live.
take a look at the release notes
One of the most irritating is a new kind of “baking” textures on avatars,
which let most text-based clients, like PikkuBot, look like a cloud.
(what Linden calls “impostors” if I am right ?!)
The current release of our software tries to solve this problem,
nevertheless, this function is still experimental,
so stay tuned to next updates and our release notes…
The command which vanishs the clouds into the air is rebake
it needs some time, and sometimes you need to use it more than once, until a bot is rendered as wanted.
(also combined with command wear <outfitfolder> and/or outfit gets me correct results)
I even got some very stubborn bots, which I only got to look correct
after logging them in with the SL-Viewer and rebake the textures with the built-in feature of it.
You will find it under Advanced (enable with STRG-ALT-D) - Character - Rebake Textures…
Honestly I dont know if that was necessary,
but it helped and after a while I got all bots looking as sweet as usual ;D
After one month without public updates, there is now a new version available for download. It will fix the cloud-bug with the new RC
My bots in Second Life are having part time jobs as models. Honestly there are not that many people who talk with them, but sometimes a newbie shoots them a message. So IM-relaying is turned on so I am able to help them. Due to the huge number of bite requests I have started setting vamppay to 400 L$ - the price for being removed from the database if bitten. The result was this funny dialog which I'd like to share with you.
The names of the bot and the players have been replaced to protect their privacy.
[17:06] Model Bot: IM-RELAY: [vampire player]: may y byte you
A bite request happened and the bot and the bot offers the deal.
[17:07] Model Bot: IM-RELAY: [vampire player]: we dont have money
[17:09] Model Bot: IM-RELAY: [vampire player]: we have money but we dont deal like that with humans
No comments.
Sorry, took some time for this one,
and sorry again for the poor frame rate, was recorded with it, and was too lazy to record again
this time we learn different capabilities to make our bot sit on its butt,
and we teach it to fill its ANSWERS.txt for answering dialogues…
Hope you enjoy…
This is the current status of my Hunter-Bot (Minelli Lisa) at http://stats.slbuzz.com/
A small PikkuBot-Update
The current version seems to be very stable and uses a minimum of resources, please try it and download/install.
And nothing happens.
Jack Linden said here :
Conclusion to the Blog Post on Bots
[…]We will not be banning or removing Bots from Second Life. There are many amazing and useful ways to use Bots[..]
Tell me Jack, with which alt you have tested a PikkuBot to get to this conclusion
“Eve die wandelbare die man nur auf den zweiten blick erkennt mit geschultem auge ^^ hoffe mal die Unterwelt des Bösen gewährt dir noch einblicke in seine Blutigen Regionen und das du uns daran weiter teil haben lässt .”
Na klärchen

The message on the website on 1st of April was a joke.
